Any mother or father knows the anxiety that comes with having a baby. It’s easy, especially for new parents in an unfamiliar place like a neonatal unit, to feel overwhelmed, powerless and lacking information. The associated stress can make it harder for parents to bond with their infants.
Dr. Nathalie de Vries was a pediatrician at Palmerston North Hospital when she conceived the Babble app to help eliminate stress by providing quality, curated content relevant to parents, caregivers and families. The app would include neonatal care information about feeding, routine checks and tests, expected problems and common neonatal diseases, and other general information, along with information specific to Palmerston North’s neonatal unit.
Our team partnered with MidCentral DHB to develop an app that lets parents access useful information when a baby is admitted to a neonatal, ICU or special care unit. Nodero also built in the capability for parents to write journals, store and share photos with family and let other parents learn from their experiences.
Available for both iOS and Android and phones and tablets, Nodero’s solution includes a dynamic content management system that allows any neonatal team to offer content that is timely and relevant to parents in their communities, without the costly ongoing upgrades and code changes.
"Our Neonatal Unit focuses on partnering with parents to take charge of caring for their child and this app really helps with that. Nodero have been great to work with."

Since its release, Babble has been well received and used by parents throughout New Zealand. It has been extended to provide localised support to the Neonatal team at Counties Manukau DHB and the families they serve.
